This post is all about Christmas kitchen decor.
The most wonderful time of year is fast approaching and it’s time to start thinking about decorating your kitchen. Your kitchen is the heart of the home and one of the best places to add Christmas decor.
If you are anything like me most of your efforts are spent making sure the living room and dining room are looking their best so take the time this year with me to make sure your Kitchen is looking it’s best as well. Decorating your kitchen is one of the easiest ways to add a holiday feel to your home; a few decor items can make a big impact.
In this post, you will find 14 ways to incorporate must-have Christmas kitchen decor from, a hot cocoa bar, kitchen window decor, Gingerbread houses, and more!
Alright, let’s jump into it.
1. Create a festive Christmas centrepiece for your kitchen island
How you style your kitchen island will all depend on how big it is. If you are lucky to have a large island with lots of surface space the opportunities are endless.
Firstly, set up a little festive display on your counter with some red ornaments, battery-operated twinkle lights (you can hide the battery part inside your display), some candy canes, and pine cones. This will instantly add some holiday spirit to your kitchen. Make sure that it is out of the way so that it doesn’t interfere with your food prep.
Secondly, if you don’t have enough room for a large festive display a couple of mini trees on top of your favorite Christmas baking book and your favorite Santa mugs won’t take up a lot of space and will also look incredibly cute.
2. Bring decor to your kitchen countertop
If you don’t have a kitchen island don’t worry you can decorate your counters. There are a number of different ways you can incorporate Christmas decor but I would suggest keeping your items on a small scale especially if countertop space is at a premium. Firstly, add some cute Christmas-themed had soap around your kitchen sink. You can also add a tiered tray in the corner and use that as a decorative display and include your cute small Christmas ornaments on it.
Another option would be to get some mason jars and fill them with festive items, some time cones, dried citrus fruits, and cranberries and make some cute decorative items that will hold up well on a kitchen countertop.
3. Create a warm and inviting hot cocoa bar
If you have a Coffee station set up in your kitchen this is a great time to swap it out or add a hot cocoa bar this Christmas season. A hot cocoa bar is a great way to be able to display all your favorite Christmas mugs (which if you are anything like me you have a lot of them). If you have open shelving you can display all your mugs along with some holiday decorations to create a cute festive scene.
4. Decorate your range hood with some festive touches
One of my favorite Christmas Kitchen decor ideas is to add some Christmas garland to your range hood. This has such a big impact on your kitchen and festive feeling. If you have the space adding a Christmas wreath above the garland will have extra impact. This is also a great option if you want to decorate your kitchen but you don’t want to have to add a lot of decor to your counters or island.
5. Hang some mini wreaths
Mini Wreaths are a must this holiday season and one of my favorite Christmas decorations. There are a number of different ways you can incorporate them into your Christmas Kitchen Decor. Firstly, if you have bar stools you can hang them from the back on the stools. Secondly, you can hang them from the cabinets above your fridge. If you are planning on hanging your mini wreaths on your cabinets I would choose ones that you don’t open that often so they don’t get in the way. As mentioned above you can also add mini wreaths to your range hood!
6. Put up a mini Christmas tree
Keeping with the mini theme if you have the space add a mini Christmas tree in your kitchen! So many people these days have more than one tree so there is no shame in the game if you are adding a second tree to your house. You can go super mini and add a couple of mini trees to your open shelving decor or have a “bigger” mini tree and put it in the corner of your kitchen. If you have a really large kitchen island add your mini tree to your centrepiece.
7. Decorate your kitchen table
A Kitchen Table is one of my favorite surfaces to decorate for any season but especially for the holiday season. Add a centrepiece and I always leave my favorite festive placemats on the table so that they add some extra holiday cheer. If your kitchen table is in your dining room then you likely have a bit more space to decorate with.
8. Hang some decor on your kitchen cabinets
This one might be the hardest idea to execute as you don’t want the decor hanging on your cabinets to get in the way of your everyday life. I would suggest decorating cabinets that you don’t have to access very often. In addition, keep the decor you are using to a minimum or to small items. Alternatively, if you don’t want to hang anything on the front of your cabinets you can always decorate the top of your cabinets with a garland. Make sure to hang the garland far enough back so that it doesn’t get in the way of your cabinet doors.
9. Create a festive scene with decor on your open shelves
I love it when open shelves are decorated for the seasons. I think it is a fun way to change your decor so you don’t get bored (and another reason to hit up your local HomeSense). If your open shelves are purely decorative you likely have a lot of space to add decor. If you shelves are more functional then you will likely need to keep the decor more minimal.
10. Add some red bows to your kitchen chairs
Adding some red bows is a simple Christmas kitchen decor idea. Add them to the back of your bar stools or if you don’t have bar stools add them to the back of your kitchen chairs. I like to hang one on the sides of my kitchen island.
11. Don’t forget to decorate your kitchen sink
Your sink is a great place the add some Christmas kitchen decor. You can swap out your regular hand soap for Christmas hand soap or transfer both of your hand soap and dish soap to a Christmas-themed canister. You can also find some Christmas-themed dish cloths and if you have the space beside your kitchen sink add a little platform to display your handsoap and create a cute Christmas decor scene.
12. This is the best time of year for fairy lights
I love fairy lights at any time of year but Christmas is the perfect time to add them if you haven’t already. A clever way to incorporate them is to put them on the top of your cabinets where you can’t see them and they give off a warm and cozy glow. You can also add really small battery-operated fairy lights to any of your centerpieces and displays. If you have a window in your kitchen hang the fairy lights around the window.

13. Add some pine cones to get you in the Christmas spirit
Pine cones are another super easy Christmas kitchen decor item you can add to your kitchen. This is a great idea if you like a more minimalist look. Adding pinecones brings the outside in and adds a warm woodsy vibe. You can incorporate pine cones in a number of different ways. One of my favorite DIYs is to spray paint a bunch of pine cones a fun Christmas color like gold and green and add them to a bowl for display. You can also add them to a piece of twine and make a pine cone garland to hang. Pine cones also make really great filler for any centerpiece.
14. Choose a more minimalist option with festive tea towels
If you don’t want to fill your kitchen to the brim with Christmas decor because you don’t have the space add a festive moment with tea towels. You can hang these from your kitchen sink, dishwasher or on your stove. This is a fun way to add some color and Christmas-themed items.
15. Ginger Bread House
Get your family or friends together and have a ginger bread house making party! This is such a fun activity and a classic Christmas decor item. Bonus points if you can keep the house until Christmas without eating it.
In conclusion, There are so many ways that you can add Christmas kitchen decor. You can opt for a more maximalist and decorate all the surfaces in your kitchen or go for a minimalist approach and keep your decor to one section of your kitchen. Whatever you do make sure that your decor matches your personal style. There are so many Christmas kitchen decor ideas it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Start in one section of your kitchen and build from there. Happy holidays!
